Haides has a LARGE family, but today I will be discussing his closest relations. Firstly, we know that Haides is the oldest son of Khronos and Rhea. This is interesting in the custom of the Classical period, this should have made him the King of the Gods of his generation instead of Zeus. However, because Khronos swallowed all of his offspring but Zeus, it could be argued that the Kingship went to the one who freed his siblings.
Haides is one of six siblings, three of which I have already blogged about — his sisters Hestia, Demeter, and Hera. Haides’ other two siblings are his brothers Poseidon and Zeus.
Other relations that are close to Haides are his nieces and nephews who also dwell on Mt. Olympus. These are Athena, Ares, Apollon, Artemis, Dionysus, Hermes, and Hephaestus.
Of course, “closest” of all, it could be said, is his wife Persephone — Daughter of Demeter. Although Persephone spends part of her time with her mother in the mortal realm, she also shares Haides’ throne in the Underworld; this is why I consider her “closest” because of all his close relations Persephone is the only one who spends any considerable amount of time in the underworld.

Persephone is close to him in several ways… Not only is she his wife, she is also his niece (or is it cousin? I always forget the difference and have to look it up…) who was born to Haides’ brother and his sister. Similar to how Hera is both sister and wife to Zeus.
On another tangent, that kind of makes Poseidon the odd one out as Amphitrite is not a close relative (if at all) of the Earthshaker.
