A Month of Devotional Thought — Demeter, Day 2

Today’s topic is how I first became aware of Demeter.  In HER case, like with many of the Hellenic Theoi, I became aware of her as a child reading the Greek Myths. Because of my Greek heritage, my parents wanted me to be aware of the stories of the Greek Gods and how people thought about them. I started with the part of the stories that were in children’s books and later in books like the one done by Edith Hamilton (which for it’s time presented a reasonable beginners view.)

As far as being aware of Demeter for devotional purposes, that came later when I reached adulthood and translated myself from Orthodox Christian to a Hellenic Polytheist.
