While people will look at this as not being a “Hellenic” festival, I tend to disagree. The ancient Greeks were very involved with the seasonal rhythms that affected everyday life. And even if it is NOT an “ancient” festival, if we acknowledge that it is a festival that the Hellenes of today are celebrating to honor the Gods, it is something that is worthy of mention.
The Vernal Equinox in 2014 (Common Era) is going to be on the 20th of March in the Northern Hemisphere. For those of us SOUTH of the Equator, it will be the Autumnal Equinox, but either way this day will be about balance…. both of the light of the sun and in our lives….
I will NOT be celebrating this day by the name of Ostara as that is NOT my celebration, and will NOT be involving eggs, rabbits or other fertility symbols.
I WILL, however, be celebrating the “return” of Apollo to the Northern part of the world…..
