The United States is unusual in the “developed” part of the world in that there are only two major parties in our elections instead of six or seven that then have to put together coalition governments. There are minor political parties that tend to not get enough of the vote in any of our states to influence the course of elections. At times, I almost envy countries like Greece and France who do have to form those coalition governments as there tends to be more cooperation between the political parties to get things done.
Why is this important? It means that although your vote ALWAYS matters that sometimes it feels like you are throwing your vote away in the United States if you do not vote for one of the major parties. This is not the case, because when you vote your conscience you are preserving your personal integrity. This is one of the hallmarks of Hellenic polytheism.Â
