#135 – Share the load of the unfortunate (Ατυχουντι συναχθου)

This is more than just a call to charity. It is a call to us to do what we can to alleviate suffering in the world by helping those around us who are in need. If you have more potatoes than you need and your neighbors don’t have food, share the potatoes (along with recipes) with them. If you know that someone needs help paying their bills because they have recently had surgery and can’t work yet, contribute what you can to help them, even if it is just groceries so they can spend their money on other things
.
We never know when we will need to help others just as we never know when we will be the ones needing help. It is for this reason that we need to put ourselves in the shoes of the less fortunate than ourselves and do what we can to help. Even if we cannot do much, there is almost always something that we CAN do. Even if we cannot do anything else but let someone know that they are being thought of and prayed for, we can do that so that they know they are not forgotten. This Maxim shows us that we must do what we can for others, just as we would want done for us. This is the path that the Gods would have us walk.
