#93 – Deal kindly with everyone (Φιλοφρονει πασιν)

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is a very well-known quote from the Christian Gospel of Matthew. This ‘Golden Rule’ is taught to every schoolchild in one form or another and it is the basis for this Maxim. It is when we do NOT deal kindly that we create anger and resentment. It is when we do NOT deal kindly that we provide an example to our children that this is acceptable behavior in society at large – an example that we should not be giving them if society is to prosper.
When we follow the stated message of this Maxim we are opening our lives to greater things as we are also opening ourselves to the kindness of others. When we follow it we are teaching our children to be kind to those around them. When we follow it we feel good within ourselves because of the reactions of others to kindness they might not have been expecting. When we follow the message of this Maxim we make society work the way that it is supposed to in being a support to all of us. This is not the same as weakness, no matter what the cynics would have us believe. It is strength for us and those around us.
